Last week’s
CI CyberNews CyberPoll dealt with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s proposed jobs bill. The majority of readers (64.8%) are not in favor of the bill, while the same number of readers either support the bill or are unsure (17.6% each). Readers were also asked whether, if the bill passes, their companies would hire new employees or spend money on capital investments within three months. Responses to that question were:
- hire new employees: 0%
- spend money on capital investments: 0%
- both of these: 13.3%
- neither of these: 86.7%
Comments included:
“More government gimmickry and micromanagement! Lower taxes and less regulation works much better.”
“Anything Harry Reid does is suspect and I'll have no part of it.”
“At this point, any stopgap legislation is attempting to bail out the Titanic. If we had an efficient healthcare system (like France, Denmark...) we wouldn’t NEED legislation on providing subsidies for healthcare when people lost their jobs. How much longer will we be subjected to a 10% increase per year before people realize that private health insurance is a drag on the economy (in general) and their personal income, specifically?”
