Last week’s CI CyberNews CyberPoll focused on BP CEO Tony Hayward being removed from his position following the company’s response the Gulf Coast oil spill. The majority of respondents (61.5%) don’t believe it is fair for Hayward to take all of the blame. Other respondents (26.9%) do believe it’s fair, while the remaining (11.6%) participants are unsure.

Comments included:

“The whole affair was politicized by the Obama administration. Interesting that the two shareholders holding some 45% of the rig appear to have got off scot free. Probably because they are not British.” -- Frank Henshall, Henshall and Associates

“You must know your people that are working for you and what are they capable of.” -- Cesar Augusto, Cerrato Portillo

“When that ‘one man’ is ‘the man,’ the CEO of BP, yes it’s entirely fair that he shoulder the blame. We now know that BP has caused the largest man-made oil spill in the history of the world! Hayward’s wayward comments and lack of professionalism in addressing the Gulf catastrophe are reasons enough for his departure.”

“There were others who should have been faulted in this problem.”

“He would still be in charge if he hadn’t made stupid statements to the press.”

“He should have had more support from the chairman, whose performance was less than adequate, especially considering these tragic circumstances. However, the CEO was obviously out of his depth and had obviously been picked as a scapegoat.”
