From the cover to every image in Line: 7 Elements of Art by Jane Castillo, one is hard-pressed to find an image that is not visually enticing. The cover’s high contrast will pull readers into the book with color combinations of red, white and black. Jane’s introduction is succinctly written and welcomes readers to her intentions.

I love the simple yet effective definition of line! The organization of the book makes sense to me as an art educator. The imagery connected to each type of line is vibrant and interesting. I enjoy how Jane found images both in art and in everyday life to demonstrate line types.

Everyone from ages one to 99 can enjoy this book. It supports the study of art and specifically the use of line. I will definitely use Jane’s book as I share the world of line with my students, grades K-5. I can’t wait for the other six books!
