Cimbar Performance Minerals: Magnesium Hydroxide (posted 3/13/08)

March 13, 2008

Cimbar Performance Minerals recently announced that now manufactures magnesium hydroxide. Magnesium hydroxide is a naturally ground white powder that compares to alumina trihydrate and acts as a flame retardant/smoke suppressant mineral used for many industrial purposes.

When heated above 340ºC, magnesium hydroxide decomposes endothermically, emitting water according to the reaction. By absorbing some of the heat, magnesium hydroxide prevents or delays ignition and retards combustion.

In addition, Cimbar also announced that it is increasing capacity at its Houston, Texas, facility. The company will add a roller mill to manufacture calcium carbonate and barium sulfate (barite). For more information, call (713) 881-9466, fax (713) 881-9471, e-mail mbrooks@cimbar.com or visit www.cimbar.com.
