A new 28,000-square-meter-a-day Interceramic plant in Chihuahua, Mexico, was specifically designed to produce large-size tiles (330 x 330 cm and 600 x 600 cm) and features Sacmi-designed technology that reportedly includes the installation of the longest kilns in the world. The official opening of the new plant, which will employ about 100 people, took place on February 11 and was attended by local authorities and Interceramic top management, including Oscar Almeida, president; Alfredo Harp, vice president; and Victor Almeida, general manager. Interceramic customers, distributors and suppliers numbered over 150 at the event.

The machines provided by Sacmi include a continuous MTC 108 mill and an ATM 180 spray dryer. The latter is a latest-generation model with an installed power of 446 kW and an evaporating power of 18,000 liters per hour. On the pressing side, the plant includes four PH 3800 presses, while efficient drying is provided by two 19.7-meter-long ECP 285 machines. Two glazing lines are also included.

The jewel in the crown of the new Interceramic plant is the firing department, which consists of two JMP 295/18.9 and two FMP 295/201.6 kilns. These are the longest kilns in the world to have come off the Sacmi Forni production line to date. Together, they form a system that is 220.5 meters long. Featuring an SPR heat recovery system, the kilns are fed directly by the line, thus reducing storage requirements. Already up and running at the time of the inauguration ceremony, the entire plant offers innovative technology and design, plus low-noise performance throughout the production process, especially on the presses.
