Beyond an Educational Experience
by Susan Sutton
March 20, 2008

I stopped by the Alfred University (AU) booth at the NCECA conference last year and learned a lot about some of its programs for the arts. I was so impressed that I asked them to write an article detailing all of the exciting goings-on there, and I was delighted when they agreed.

The School of Art and Design at AU shares a unique partnership with the university’s Inamori School of Engineering while simultaneously enjoying the diversity of a comprehensive liberal arts program. As the article says, “The focus of the Division of Ceramic Art at Alfred is the education of undergraduate and graduate students to the limits of their imagination. A student’s familiarity with materials and processes, coupled with a knowledge of historical and contemporary issues, enhances the development of concept and an individual point of view.”

AU offers an incredible range of classes, a visiting artist and lecture series, exhibitions of recognized artists, and an exchange program and partnership with the Central Academy of Fine Arts-City Design School in Beijing. In addition, an intense four-week summer session offers a comprehensive ceramic experience to students at all levels of expertise.

Link to the full article below to read more about these and all of the other opportunities offered at AU.
