ALFRED WILL RECEIVE $5 MILLION FOR INAMORI SCHOOL
New York State has allocated $5 million through the New York State Construction Fund for the Kazuo Inamori School of Engineering at Alfred University. State Senator Catharine Young recently made the announcement to students, faculty and guests. The state allocation augments a $10 million gift, given in March 2005, from Kyocera Corp. With the income from the endowment, the University plans to hire up to four Kyocera professors as the nucleus of a new center dedicated to research in nanotechnology for photonic and biomedical applications. The $5 million in state funds will be used for facilities and equipment for the new center.

ALSTOM EXPANDING MANUFACTURING OPERATIONS
ALSTOM Power Inc., Air Preheater Co., headquartered in Wellsville, NY., and part of the Energy and Environment Systems Group within ALSTOM Power, will be embarking on an expansion project to build an additional 44,000 square feet of manufacturing floor space at its Andover Rd. facility. The $15 million expansion project is a result of a solid business plan and increased orders for the company’s product lines, which include heat recovery and various coal and mineral grinding technologies. The investment in the Wellsville facility will include new state-of-the-art machinery that will enable the company to increase its global competitive edge with regard to technology, welding and machinery. Renovations of existing buildings to increase efficiencies are also planned.
