EPA REPRESENTATIVE TO SPEAK AT CERMA MEETING Bill Neuffer of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will speak at the Ceramic Manufacturers Association (CerMA) meeting in Pittsburgh, Pa., May 22-24, 2007. The EPA has been working closely with CerMA and the Tile Council of America in the establishment of area source rules. Enforcement of these rules has been mandated by the court as a result of a suit filed by the Sierra Club, and clay ceramics (including brick, tile, sanitaryware, dinnerware and pottery) are affected. Compliance will be monitored for manufacturers that use more than 50 tons of wet clay and/or spray any glaze materials. The EPA expects the rules to be finalized by mid year. A Q&A session will follow
Neuffer’s presentation. For additional information, visit www.cerma.org.
NEW TRENDS IN TILE AND STONE TO DEBUT AT COVERINGS 2007 More than 1200 of the world’s leading resources in tile and stone are preparing for their journey to Chicago’s McCormick Place Convention Center and Coverings 2007, to be held April 17-20, when they take the wraps off their newest and most innovative products. Also preparing for their journey are the 33,000 industry professionals who attend Coverings. “The Coverings experience is incomparable,” said Tamara Christian, chief executive officer of National Trade Productions, the show’s producer. “First and foremost, the product introductions take center stage. But it’s the combination of so many other daily activities and opportunities at Coverings
that wow and impress attendees. And it accounts for why there’s such an extraordinary loyalty rate: 53% of those who come to Coverings are returnees.” For more information, call (703) 683-8500 or visit www.coverings.com.

Refining Doped Ceria Doped cerium oxide materials are being applied to solid oxide fuel cells and other electrochemical devices like electrochemical oxygen generators. For these new applications, developers are finding that the mass-produced materials are not meeting production or performance needs. Focusing on the refinement of common ceramic processing methods and the development of subsequent quality control methods has led to a new series of reproducible doped ceria materials tailored to individual requirements.
