CERADYNE TO ACQUIRE EAGLEPICHER BORON Ceradyne, Inc. has signed a purchase agreement to acquire EaglePicher Boron LLC (EP Boron) of Quapaw, Okla., for approximately $69.0 million in cash. EP Boron was established in the early 1970s to produce the boron isotope B10, which is a strong neutron absorber used for both nuclear waste containment and nuclear power plant neutron radiation control. EP Boron also produces complementary chemical isotopes used in the normal operation and control of nuclear power plants. FULL STORY

COORSTEK INTRODUCES NEW CERAMIC SUBSTRATES CoorsTek recently introduced its new DuraStrate™ thick-film ceramic substrates. Developed specifically for improved performance in thick-film substrates, this new material offers significant performance advantages over standard, widely-available ceramic substrates. Specifically, CoorsTek is employing a finer-grain (1.5 to 2.0 micron) microstructure material that is chiefly responsible for a 20% increase in biaxial flexural strength over traditional materials, improved thick-film performance, consistent thicknesses, improved camber flatness and better aged adhesion. FREEDONIA PROJECTS SLIGHT INCREASE IN FLOORING DEMAND According to “Hard Surface Flooring,” a new study from The Freedonia Group, Inc., U.S. demand for hard surface flooring is projected to advance 3.9% per year to 11.9 billion square feet in 2011, valued at $13.5 billion. Growth will decelerate from the 2001 to 2006 period, mostly due to a significant contraction in residential construction, especially single family housing. FULL STORY
LIBBEY JOINS RUSSELL 3000 INDEX Libbey Inc. was recently added to the broad-market Russell 3000 Index when Russell Investment Group reconstituted its comprehensive set of U.S. and global equity indexes on June 22, 2007. Membership in the Russell 3000, which remains in place for one year, means Libbey will automatically be included in the small-cap Russell 2000.

ONEIDA OPENS NEW DISTRIBUTION FACILITY Oneida Ltd. recently announced that its new distribution center in Bryan County, Ga., near the Port of Savannah, is fully operational and handling all of the company’s shipping requirements for the eastern half of the U.S. Construction of the facility was completed on schedule in January, and Oneida began initial operations at the center in April.
