ALMATIS ANNOUNCES GLOBAL PRICE INCREASE FOR NEW CONTRACTS
Almatis will raise prices on its entire specialty alumina product portfolio for refractory, ceramic and polishing applications. Affected products include tabular alumina, calcined alumina, calcium aluminate cement and spinels. Price increases will range between 13-20% on a global basis and will be effective for all new contracts placed after September 15, 2007.

AMERICAN HYDROGEN GAINS RIGHTS TO OHIO UNIVERSITY FUEL RESEARCH
Ohio University researcher Gerardine Botte, Ph.D., has discovered how to produce hydrogen fuel inexpensively, and now she and the university have signed an agreement to license her technology to a corporation that will take it to the marketplace. The company, American Hydrogen Corp., has also set up offices in Athens at the Ohio University Innovation Center.

CERADYNE COMPLETES EP BORON ACQUISITION
Ceradyne, Inc. recently announced that it has completed its previously announced acquisition of EaglePicher Boron LLC (EP Boron), Quapaw, Okla., for $69.6 million in cash. EP Boron was established in the early 1970s to produce the boron isotope 10B, which is a strong neutron absorber and is used for both nuclear waste containment and nuclear power plant neutron radiation control.

EIA RELEASES 2006 RENEWABLE ENERGY CONSUMPTION STATS
The Energy Information Administration (EIA) recently released its “Renewable Energy Consumption and Electricity Preliminary 2006 Statistics” report. Preliminary data indicates that total renewable energy consumption increased 7% between 2005 and 2006. In contrast, total U.S. energy consumption declined by 1%, mainly due to decreased consumption of fossil fuels.
