ALCOA REPORTS THIRD QUARTER FINANCIAL RESULTS Alcoa recently reported third quarter income from continuing operations of $558 million, or $0.64 per diluted share. Third quarter income from continuing operations increased 3% from $540 million, or $0.62, in the third quarter of 2006. Income from continuing operations was $716 million, or $0.81, in the second quarter of 2007. FULL STORY
BLASCH NAMES HARRISON DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONAL DEVELOPMENT Shay Harrison, Ph.D., has been named director of Operational Development for Blasch Precision Ceramics. In his new position, Harrison will be responsible for overseeing the transition of innovations from R&D to manufacturing, and making process improvements on the manufacturing floor to provide better control of materials, including particle size distribution, material density and overall product quality. CERADYNE RECIEVES $49.2 MILLION BODY ARMOR ORDER Ceradyne, Inc. recently received a ceramic body armor delivery order for $49.2 million from the U.S. Army, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. The order is for enhanced side ballistic inserts (ESBI), which will be delivered from December 2007 through February 2008. FULL STORY
GE ENERGY SIGNS $730 MILLION AGREEMENT WITH EDP GE Energy has signed a global frame agreement with the renewable area of Energias de Portugal, SA (EDP), the world’s fourth largest wind project developer, to supply wind turbines totaling more than 500 megawatts of new capacity for wind projects to be developed during 2008 and 2009 in Europe and the U.S. FULL STORY
HARRIS ANNOUNCES PLANS TO RETIRE AS NIBS PRESIDENT David A. Harris, FAIA, recently announced his intention to retire as president and chief executive officer of the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) after almost 20 years. OGLEBAY NORTON TO BE ACQUIRED BY CARMEUSE Carmeuse North America, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carmeuse Group, and Oglebay Norton Co. recently announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Carmeuse will acquire all of the outstanding shares of Oglebay Norton for $36.00 per share in cash.
