ALFA AESAR PUBLISHES NEW RESEARCH CHEMICALS CATALOG
The "2008-09 Catalog of Research Chemicals, Metals and Materials" from Alfa Aesar features over 3000 new products, many of which are novel fine organics, including hundreds of new boronic acids, silanes and silanols, chiral diamines, fluorochemicals and more. Other new products include nanomaterials, base metal fuel cell catalysts, fuel cell components, pure metals, alloys, analytical standards, precious metal catalysts and catalyst/ligand kits. ALMATIS FORMS DEDICATED UNITS FOR REFRACTORIES AND CERAMICS
Almatis recently announced that it has created two dedicated commercial units with enhanced focus on their respective industries. The new Commercial Ceramics, Polishing, and Others business unit (CPO) includes polishing and other non-refractory markets. The Commercial Refractories unit will focus exclusively on the growing and globalizing refractory industry, further expanding its technical support, particularly in key growth markets like Brazil, Russia, India and China. FREEDONIA GROUP PUBLISHES REPORT ON FLAT GLASS DEMAND IN CHINA Demand for flat glass in China is expected to climb 8.6% per year through 2011 to 2.2 billion square meters. Measured in value, flat glass demand will expand 15% per year to ¥117.5 billion (~ $15.9 billion), driven by a shift in the mix toward higher-value fabricated glass in many applications. The Chinese flat glass market will outpace growth in all other parts of the world, driven by healthy gains in building construction activity as industrialization efforts continue and income levels rise. HAUCK AND KROMSCHRODER TO MERGE The Elster Group recently announced the merger of two of its companies in North America. As of January 1, 2008, Kromschroder, Inc. will be merging its operations with Hauck Manufacturing Co. Hauck will serve as the supplier for Hauck brand products and Kromschroder burners and combustion controls for customers in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. FULL STORY
I-3, OSHKOSH AND CERADYNE AWARDED ARMORED VEHICLE CONTRACT
Ideal Innovations, Inc. (I-3), Oshkosh Truck Corp. and Ceradyne, Inc. recently announced that they have been awarded a delivery order of $18.1 million by the government to produce and deliver Category 1 (six-man) variants and targets of The Bull™ Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle to the U.S. Marine Corps Joint MRAP program office. The vehicles are to be delivered in the first quarter of calendar year 2008 and will be used for further government testing of their explosively formed penetrator (EFP) resistant capabilities.
