MISTURE NAMED FIRST INAMORI PROFESSOR AT ALFRED
Scott T. Misture, Ph.D., professor of Materials Science and Engineering, has been named the first Inamori Professor by the Kazuo Inamori School of Engineering at Alfred University (AU). A $10 million gift from Kyocera Corp. in honor of its founder, Kazuo Inamori, Ph.D., led to the creation of four Inamori Professorships in the School of Engineering.

FERRO WILL HOLD CONFERENCE CALL TO DISCUSS FINANCIAL RESULTS

LIBBEY ANNOUNCES FOURTH QUARTER, YEAR-END RESULTS
Libbey Inc. recently announced that sales its increased 5.5% to an all-time record $225.1 million in the fourth quarter of 2007, up from $213.4 million in the prior-year fourth quarter. Libbey reported a net loss of $5.0 million, or $0.34 per share, for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2007, compared to a net loss of $8.5 million, or $0.60 per share, in the prior year’s quarter.

A summary of the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) Fiscal Year 2009 Budget has been released by the Nanoscale Science, Engineering, and Technology (NSET) Subcommittee of the National Science and Technology Council’s Committee on Technology. The report is a supplement to the President’s Budget for Fiscal Year 2009, providing additional details on the NNI budget request, as well as highlights of planned activities to be conducted under that budget.

The Glass Packaging Institute (GPI) recently elected L. Richard Crawford, president of Global Glass Operations for Owens-Illinois, Inc. Orkla Exolon AS of Orkanger, Norway, has changed its name to Washington Mills AS. Orkla Exolon AS is a subsidiary of the Washington Mills Group, which is reportedly the largest silicon carbide producer in North America and the only one with U.S. environmental approval. "This change reflects our corporate intention to continue to focus and grow our silicon carbide microgrit business," said Ole J. Svorkdal, managing director.
