WISNOSKI NAMED PRESIDENT OF ALCOA GLOBAL PRIMARY PRODUCTS
Alcoa recently announced that Kenneth Wisnoski has been named president, Global Primary Products - Growth, Energy, Bauxite and Africa. He succeeds Jon Erik Reinhardsen, who resigned from Alcoa to become chief executive officer of Petroleum Geo-Services ASA. Wisnoski had been vice president of this business unit, which is involved in smelting, bauxite and energy growth opportunities and projects worldwide.

BORAL ANNOUNCES HALF-YEAR PROFIT
Boral Limited recently announced a profit after tax (PAT) of $132 million (~ $122 million U.S.) for the half-year ended December 31, 2007, a 10% or $15 million (~ $14 million U.S.) decrease on the PAT for the half-year ended December 21, 2006. A 5% increase in sales revenue to $2.6 billion (~ $2.4 billion U.S.) reflects a 12% lift in Australian revenues due to price improvement, volume gains and growth initiatives, which more than offset a 19% fall in U.S. revenue due to the significant decline in U.S. housing activity.

CERADYNE RECEIVES $9.1 MILLION BODY ARMOR DELIVERY ORDER
Ceradyne, Inc. recently announced the receipt of a $9.1 million delivery order from the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), MacDill Air Force Base, Fla. The order is for the family of ballistic plates for body armor load carriage systems (BALCS). "This delivery order is our second BALCS delivery order issued by SOCOM against the maximum value $400 million indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract announced in January 2008," said David P. Reed, Ceradyne president of North American Operations.

COOKSON ANNOUNCES PRELIMINARY 2007 RESULTS
Cookson Group recently announced a strong improvement in its continuing operations for 2007, including a 6% increase in revenue to £1.6 billion (~ $3.2 billion) and a 17% increase in trading profit to £170 million (~ $342 million). The Ceramics division experienced underlying revenue growth of 11% and trading profit of £109 million (~ $220 million), up 25%, and continued investment in capacity for high-growth markets.

DMG TO OPEN NEW TECHNOLOGY CENTER
As a demonstration of its commitment to better serve the American machining market at all levels, DMG America recently announced the grand opening of its Technology Center America in Itasca, Ill., just outside Chicago. The event will occur April 15-18 with 15 machines in operation, including three new machine designs, plus ongoing technical workshops, food and entertainment. A special raffle for an ATV will also be conducted.
