ACME BRICK CELEBRATES 117TH BIRTHDAY
Acme Brick Co. recently gave its employees a clear view of the company's 117-year history as the company celebrated its birthday April 17. On that day, each of Acme's 2800 employees received a "birthday present" of four clear tumbler glasses, each bearing a different photographic image of an event in Acme's history. Acme was established April 17, 1891, near Weatherford, Texas.

ROGERS NAMED TO APPLIED MATERIALS' BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Applied Materials, Inc. recently announced that James E. Rogers has been appointed to serve on its board of directors. He will also serve as a member of the Human Resources and Compensation Committee and the Strategy Committee of the board. Rogers is chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer of Duke Energy, one of the largest electric power companies in the U.S.

CORNING REPORTS STRONG FIRST QUARTER EARNINGS
Corning Inc. recently announced results for the first quarter of 2008. Sales reached $1.62 billion, up 24% from last year, while earnings per share were $0.64, including a $327 million gain related to the pending Pittsburgh Corning Corp. bankruptcy proceeding. Excluding the special item for the first quarter, earnings per share were $0.44, better than the company's guidance of $0.41 to $0.43, and up 57% from last year.

LUCIFER FURNACES OFFERS HEAVY-DUTY ALLOY MUFFLE MODELS
A complete line of large alloy muffle furnaces (5000 AM series) is available from Lucifer Furnaces, Inc. The 5000 AM models are equipped with a corrugated alloy retort that separates the chamber refractory and heating elements from the workload and atmosphere to minimize scale and oxidation. The retort reduces atmosphere consumption, shortens the purge time and helps achieve lower dew points.

LATEST INDUSTRY DATA SHOW GAINS BY ONEIDA IN FLATWARE
Oneida Ltd. recently announced major gains in market share for the 12-month period ending March 31, 2008, as reported by The NPD Group, a leading provider of consumer and retail information. Oneida was the top-ranked brand in flatware, with a 26.6% market share. The company's market share in flatware increased by 2.7 points during the year, more than any other brand, and Oneida also ranked as the number one brand in fine flatware, with a 20.1% market share.

RETSCH INTRODUCES NEW TAP SIEVE SHAKER
The AS 200 tap sieve shaker from Retsch Inc. features a combination of horizontal circular sieving motion with vertical tapping motion, as specified in various standards for particle analysis (i.e., abrasives). The uniform mechanical sieving motion produces reliable and reproducible measurement results and, since the company offers dedicated versions for 50 and 60 Hz, the AS 200 tap operates at the same speed worldwide to provide comparable sieve analyses.

SAINT-GOBAIN ISSUES FIRST QUARTER RESULTS
Saint-Gobain's consolidated sales for the first quarter of 2008 came in at €10,301 million (~ $16.1 billion), compared with €10,447 million (~ $16.3 billion) in the same period last year. This represents a decline of 1.4% on an actual structure basis, a rise of 0.9% like-for-like on a constant structure and exchange rate basis, and an increase of 1.5% at constant exchange rates.
