FocusOn: Thermal Analysis Short Course, January 18, 2009

A short course on Thermal Analysis and Thermophysical Properties Measurement of Ceramic and Refractory Materials will be held January 18 at the Daytona Beach Hilton Hotel during the upcoming International Conference and Exposition on Advanced Ceramics and Composites. Course registration is $295.

NETZSCH Instruments Inc., a leading company in the thermoanalytical field, is sponsoring the course. Emphasizing the characterization of ceramic and refractory materials, lectures will cover analysis techniques like the Laser Flash Method for measurement of Thermal Diffusivity, Thermal Conductivity, Thermal Expansion by Dilatometry, Specific Heat by DSC, and the coupling of Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) with MS/FTIR for evolved gas analysis.

CVI DEVELOPS FURNACE FOR NUCLEAR APPLICATION
Centorr Vacuum Industries (CVI) recently announced that it is in the process of completing the manufacture of a 28-m-long precision vacuum annealing furnace for straight and U-tubes for use in nuclear power stations. The furnace was upgraded to include a new control system and improved high-vacuum pumping system.

MORGAN CRUCIBLE INCREASES STAKE IN NP AEROSPACE
Morgan Crucible recently announced that it will increase its equity stake in NP Aerospace from 49% to 60% by acquiring 11% of the ordinary share capital of the company from the management and Employee Benefit Trust for a consideration of £12.2 million (about $17.7 million). As a result, NP Aerospace will be fully consolidated into the Morgan Crucible accounts with immediate effect.
