“International Powder & Bulk Solids not only brings buyers and sellers together, it builds smarter buyers and sellers,” said Kevin Richards, industry vice president of Reed Exhibitions (REC), organizer of Powder & Bulk Solids. “Whether the goal is to maximize productivity, enhance product quality, reduce costs, eliminate hazards or increase profits, this event will help industry professionals understand timely issues and make educated decisions.”
The keynote address will be given Tuesday, May 7, at 9 a.m. by Chris Matthews, host of “Hardball with Chris Matthews.” Matthews’ presentation, entitled “A Political Insider’s View from Washington,” is free to all attendees. Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
Conference HighlightsAll 55 of the conference’s educational offerings, including 22 new courses for 2002, will be led by internationally respected technical experts. Tracks of the conference program include “Automation & Instrumentation,” “Environmental Issues,” “Packaging,” “Plant Maintenance,” “Solids Characterization & Properties,” and “Solids Handling & Storage.”
“Focus On” sessions will be Tuesday, May 7, from 4-5 p.m. and are free to all badge holders. Topics include “Agglomeration and Size Enlargement;” “Automation and Instrumentation;” “Dust Control, Generation and Environmental Issues;” “Mixing, Blending and Segregation;” “Particle Characterization;” “Pneumatic Conveying;” and “Solids Flow, Handling & Storage.”
New to the program in 2002 is a comprehensive export workshop, “Doing Business in International Markets.” Presented by the Foreign Trade Division of the U.S. Department of Commerce on Monday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and again from 1:30 to 5 p.m., the workshop will provide information and expertise needed for trade in international markets. Experts from Department of Commerce will familiarize attendees with the resources and services currently available to U.S. companies. Topics will include the “Automated Export System (AES),” “Commodity Analysis Structure” and “Customs.” Registration is required for this workshop.
Dedicated Technology PavilionsThree specialized pavilions will group similar products and technologies together in one area of the exhibit hall, making it easier for attendees to locate solutions to match their requirements, compare competing products and make informed purchasing decisions.
The Packaging Pavilion will feature a full range of packaging solutions, including bags, bagging and filling equipment, palletizing systems, bar coding and scanning technology. The Plant Maintenance & Engineering Pavilion will provide opportunities to evaluate solutions for environmental protection, solid waste management, emergency response, dust collection, recycling and more. And attendees who visit the Process Automation & Controls Pavilion will find integrated solutions to speed up batch operations, increase process stability and product consistency, and provide real-time access to critical information throughout the plant.
Switch to Biennial ScheduleIn direct response to industry demand, REC has announced plans to adopt a biennial schedule for Powder & Bulk Solids. The traditional event will take place in even years, beginning in 2002. In the alternate years, REC will hold the Powder & Bulk Solids Technology Forum, a new conference-driven event.
Technology Forums will feature an emphasis on new technology, advanced training and networking. The conference will present a large and prestigious educational program and will feature an international faculty of leading experts on the science and applications of powder technology, along with a small exhibit area. The first Technology Forum will be held in Rosemont, Ill., May 6-8, 2003.
