Corning Celebrates 150 Years of Innovation
Corning Inc. recently kicked off its 150th anniversary year, celebrating an incredible century and a half of world-changing innovations. In an era when many companies seem to come and go overnight, Corning's ability to anticipate market needs and constantly reinvent itself has enabled the company to flourish throughout its history, and place it at the forefront of technology and innovation for the 21st century. Corning is one of only 16 companies in the Fortune 500 to mark its sesquicentennial.
"We are deeply proud of this historic anniversary and tremendously excited about the next 150 years," said John W. Loose, chief executive officer. "Corning has a heritage of innovation that has been called one of the great scientific traditions in American business. Throughout our history we have developed world-changing innovations that have created entirely new industries, including the light bulb for Thomas Edison, technology to mass-produce television tubes, and optical fiber. As we celebrate our distinguished heritage throughout the year, we are also firmly focused on the future. We are confident that Corning will continue to play a leading role in bringing new technologies and innovations to the world. With our exceptional people and strong commitment to research and development, the possibilities for the future are endless."
