September 16, 2002
"Failure Analysis and Prevention", a new ASM Handbook(R), focuses on the root causes of failure and describes the principles, practices and analytical techniques of failure analysis so that root causes can be identified and corrected. The new handbook begins with sections on engineering aspects of failure prevention, materials selection, and the role of design reviews in prevention and analysis. Additional sections include coverage of the failure analysis process; principles, practices, tools and techniques used to perform and evaluate failure analysis work; and the causes, mechanisms, appearances and prevention methodology for the four classic types of failure.
