The Glass Manufacturing Industry Council (GMIC) recently announced the availability of a CD-ROM containing the proceedings of the glass industry focused session at the recent American Ceramic Society Annual Meeting. Topics include a review of modeling programs to help manufacturers improve elements of the current process; technical papers on temperature measurement accuracy, convective melting techniques for glass furnaces, plasma melting concepts, rapid glass fining, fiberglass forming issues, modeling for liquids prediction in float glass, sub-atmospheric refining and forehearth optimization; and a special paper on common sense approaches to energy reduction. Also included is the new roadmap the glass industry has drafted to help guide the industry's movement toward increasing efficiency and profitability.
