Retsch, Inc. recently introduced its new bench top planetary ball mills at Achema 2003. The PM 100, a single-station unit, handles grinding jars from 50-500 ml, while the dual-station PM 200 will accept jars up to 125 ml. Grind sizes are typically down to 1 micron and less. Both mills feature an extremely powerful drive with speeds up to 650 rpm, which allows for continuous operation without cooling down times. Additional features include the patented "easysafe" clamp; balance control; a convenient operation display for parameter setting and control, which offers additional information on drive work load, energy input and service issues; memory for 10 parameter combinations and delayed start; and a motor driven lock for the cover. The PM400 handles heavy-duty grinding tasks and processes larger numbers of samples. The mills are suitable for use with Retsch's dust-tight, convenient EZ-use grinding jars and will be available in the fall of 2003.
