Sacmi: Automatic Polishing Machine for Porcelain Stoneware

SACMI has introduced a lapping machine designed for placement by the kiln exit.

In terms of surface texture, tile production can be divided into three distinct groups: structured surface; flat surface but rough, as at the kiln exit; and flat surface but polished after firing. Tiles belonging to the first two groups have a slight surface roughness and opacity that can satisfy the desired effect for planned final destinations. If you wish to further extend their use to other spaces, it becomes necessary to modify the surface characteristics after firing by increasing the shine and reducing the roughness. To resolve this problem, SACMI has introduced a lapping machine to place by the kiln exit. With the lapping process, tiles in the first two groups can be placed in an intermediate band between rough and polished. The tiles can be positioned near one extreme or the other, depending on the number of heads installed on the lapping machine and the grain of the abrasives that impregnate the bristles used on the brushes. The use of brushes as work tools, combined with the regulation of their working pressure, allows a good level of uniformity of treatment over all the surface of the tiles, even reaching the depth of the low-relief points in structured surfaces.
