Blasch Precision Ceramics has announced a new line of porous plugs used for the degassing of aluminum, copper and other nonferrous metals. These parts, manufactured through the Blasch injection molding process, maintain precisely controlled porosity and permeability, and offer excellent gas bubble distribution coupled with reduced penetration and plugging by the liquid metal. The Blasch process produces a nominal pore size of five microns, about 10% that of conventional materials. The reduced pore size increases the efficiency of the plug by creating smaller bubbles in greater quantity, given the same gas flow. The small pore size also prevents metal penetration during idle periods, dramatically increasing the life of the part.
