CERAM recently announced the appointment of Andrew Smith as research manager in its Building Technology Division. Smith is a geologist with a master's of science degree in industrial mineralogy, as well as a doctorate, which awarded for a study into alkali-silica reaction in concrete. He was previously the head of Hanson Brick's research and technical departments. Smith's role at CERAM will be primarily to build up raw material-based project work nationally and internationally, as well as to manage some aspects of cooperative research work for the heavy clay industries.
