Short CO2 Laser Pulses Target Micromachining

Engineers at DeMaria ElectroOptics Systems, Inc. (DEOS) have recently investigated the materials processing capabilities of sub-microsecond pulses from a sealed CO2 laser platform. Specifically, according to the company, they have generated 150 nsec pulses from a Q-switched laser cavity and used these pulses to process several materials. As expected for such short pulses, the machined features reportedly exhibit very high quality, as defined by shape, clean edges, exceptional consistency, and virtually no heat affected zone (HAZ).
