OMG’s Mooney Receives Award

James P. Mooney, chairman and chief executive officer of OM Group, Inc. (OMG), was recently selected by the Harvard Business School Club of Northeastern Ohio as this year’s recipient of the George S. Dively Entrepreneurship Award, which is granted annually to an individual or company in Northeast Ohio based on the demonstration of substantial success as an entrepreneur or entrepreneurial company. Success is measured by rapid and solid growth in the size and profitability of the organization over the last five years, as well as by having achieved a position of significance in the marketplace.

Under Mooney’s direction, Cleveland-based OMG has reportedly become the world leader in producing and marketing cobalt, copper, nickel and tungsten specialty chemicals and powders. From 1979-1991, Mooney was president and CEO of Mooney Chemicals, Inc. He managed the family-held $5 million business until it reached $55 million and merged with Outokumpu Chemical Oy of Finland to form OMG in 1991. Today, OMG is a $800 million corporation known for innovative products and unsurpassed technical quality and service globally.
