Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. recently assisted PPG Industries Inc. in converting its Fresno, Calif., flat glass manufacturing plant to a 100% oxy-fuel fired glass melting furnace using Air Products' patented CLEANFIRE HR® oxy-fuel burner technology. Described as being among the world's most advanced glass making technologies, this furnace reportedly enables PPG to meet stringent California air quality regulations for nitrogen oxides (NOx) that are not achievable with its standard glass melting technologies. "Air Products' technology is a breakthrough in terms of its ability to significantly lower NOx emissions by minimizing the available nitrogen," said Dennis V. diDonato, PPG's director of flat glass production.
