BCR - IBPOF At a Glance
More than 50 speakers presented information on a wide range of topics, from products and wall systems, research and development and new plants, to production technology and mining challenges and international specifications. Noted speakers at the IBPOF included Dr. Geoff Edgell of Ceram Building Technology (Stoke-on-Trent, UK), who addressed the future of brick masonry. Eckhard Rimpel of IZF (German Brick Institute, Essen) presented a paper entitled, "Possibilities and Limitations of Fast Firing, and Gregg Borchelt of the Brick Industry Association discussed the results of testing on anchor bolts in brickwork.
Other highlights of the event were the annual steak cookout at the Y-Beach, the annual reception, sponsored by J.C. Steele & Sons, Inc., and the hospitality suites hosted by industry suppliers at Lake Hartwell Inn.
Next year's IBPOF will be held at the Ramada Inn, October 1-3, 2001, with the theme "Dehacking/Unloading-State of the Art." Longer term plans to hold the IBPOF at Littlejohn Coliseum on the Clemson University campus depend on the availability of the Coliseum after currently planned renovations are complete (anticipated in 2003). The 2001 IBPOF will include a policy that all presentations (except invited presentations) will be made by brick producers, and the IBPOF will return to its long-standing practice of starting with manufacturing related topics. Additional input for next year's IBPOF is being sought from those having Hospitality Suites at the Lake Hartwell Inn, as well as from vendors who attend the meeting.
