KUKA Robotics Corp. recently announced the introduction to the U.S. market of a family of clean room robots specifically designed for flat panel display manufacturing and substrate glass handling. The clean room family includes the industry's largest clean room robot, the KUKA KR 180 L130 CR, with a reach of 3100 mm, and the industry's strongest clean room robot, the KUKA KR 500 CR, with a payload capacity of 500 kg. "KUKA has a long history in glass handling applications, and it was natural for us to develop high performance robots for flat panel display and glass substrate applications," said Joe Campbell, director of strategic alliances. "As larger displays predominate the market, automation becomes critical, and robots like the KUKA KR 500 CR and KUKA KR180 L130 CR offer unique solutions."
