Ferro Glass Systems: Coating Verifies Product ID To Detect Fakes

Ferro Glass Systems' CerMark(R) Laser Marking business unit has introduced a read-through coating designed to guarantee product authenticity and quality and to help detect counterfeiting. The coating, which appears opaque to the naked eye, conceals marks used to identify and deter counterfeiting of automobile parts, aircraft parts and myriad other industrial and consumer products. The first step in the process is imprinting an identifying mark such as a barcode, UPC label or logo on the part. Ferro's read-through coating is then applied to the surface to conceal the mark, which will only be visible using a specialized camera that detects infrared light, such as a security camera with night vision capability. When viewed in infrared light, the hidden mark is revealed, signifying that the part is legitimate. If the part lacks an identifying logo, it is counterfeit.
