Surmet Ceramics Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of Surmet Corp., will announce a new $1.25 million program for composite development with the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) today at its Buffalo, N.Y., facility. Congressman Jack Quinn, who was instrumental in helping the company obtain this program, will be Surmet's special guest. Also in attendance will be Timothy Davis, president and CEO of Surmet Corp.; Suri Sastri, Ph.D., founder and chief technologist; and Thomas Mroz, operations manager of the Buffalo facility. Surmet completed the acquisition of select ceramic business units and related production equipment from M/A-COM (a division of TYCO) in June 2003. The acquisition included manufacturing facilities for the production of Aluminum Oxynitride (AlON[TM]) powder and aluminum nitride powder, as well as several research and development contracts and related ceramic processing equipment.
