Engineered Glass Products (EGP) and its research partner, the University of Toledo, were recently awarded a 2005 Third Frontier Wright Project Award. The state of Ohio recently issued nine Third Frontier awards to public and private research centers that are promoting, creating and expanding high-tech economic opportunities in the state. The University of Toledo will receive a $99,920 grant for its Center for Photovoltaic Electricity and Hydrogen (CPEH). EGP has been a partner of the CPEH since the university first announced plans to build it in 2003. The CPEH focuses on developing systems that convert solar energy into non-polluting electricity and into hydrogen for fuel cells, which could transform Northwest Ohio into a national leader in alternative energy. The project is a collaborative effort involving several different entities, including the university, EGP, McMaster Energy Enterprises, Innovative Thin Films, Midwest Optoelectronics, BRP Manufacturing, First Solar and Pilkington Glass.
