World Academy of Ceramics Announces Prize Winners

Larry L. Hench of Imperial College, London, UK, and Frank T. Filser of ETH Zurich, Switzerland, have been selected as the recipients of the International Ceramics Prize 2004 by the World Academy of Ceramics. Hench, who was awarded the prize for Basic Research, was recognized for his outstanding contribution to the global advancement of biomaterials. Filser, winner of the prize for Industrial Research, was recognized for his technical advancement in the practical exploitation of high-strength tetragonal stabilized zirconia (TZP) ceramics.
