PRODUCT PROFILE: Multi-Stack Furnace
Multiple-stack bottom loading furnaces reportedly represent a large technical development for firing processes up to 1700°C (3100°F) for modestly large furnace load volumes. The furnaces enable users to heat-process larger quantities of materials with the same temperature uniformity and process control typically provided by smaller laboratory furnaces. The multi-stack furnace is appropriate for processing advanced and electronic ceramic components, or nanomaterials, where higher-volume production with the accuracy of laboratory-scale processing is desired.
In a multiple-stack furnace, the material being heated is separated into smaller stacks with heating elements that pass between the stacks. Consequently, very precise temperature uniformity that previously was only possible with small precision-heating, laboratory-sized furnaces can be achieved within a larger-sized furnace. In addition to dividing the load with heating elements between stacks, temperature is often controlled using vertical control zones as well. This is particularly useful for processes that require rapid and uniform heating and cooling. A variety of optional forced and controlled draft air-cooling systems can deliver precise and repeatable performance.
Digital process controls are standard. Everything from programmable heating and cooling, venting of process volatiles, and all safety logic is managed automatically using the latest control technology. Integrated communications with a remote supervisory workstation and data logging are available options.
Multi-stack furnaces have been built with capacities as little as 2 cu ft and as large as 60 cu ft. In addition to several standard models, larger custom sizes, different hearth configurations and higher temperature ratings are also available. The furnace can also be heated and insulated with the most suitable choice of heating element and thermal insulation based on the required temperatures.
