PPP - NCECA 2000 Seeks Higher Ground

With the theme “Higher Ground,” the 34th annual conference of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) will be held at the Adam’s Mark Hotel in Denver, Colo., March 22-25.

Panels will focus on international collaborations, extrusion, recovering body, creating value, new technologies, the teapot, community clay centers, and the content of function. Lectures will include “Landscapes: Mystical, Metaphorical, Psychological” by Elaine Levin; “English Bone China: Lasts Forever,” by Elizabeth MacLarty; “Sacred Ceramic Arts of Africa” by Monica Blackmun Visona; “Nakazato Family of Japanese Potters” by Ronald Otsuka; “Behind Every Woman—A Woman” by Karen Thuesen Massaro; “Chinese Contemporary Ceramic Art” by Guangzhen “Po” Zhou and I-Chi Hsu; and “Harvest Festival” by Daniel Duford.

As in previous years, a silent auction will be held to benefit the NCECA endowment. Fourteen to 18 pieces will be on display on Wednesday, March 22, during which time bids may be made for the ceramic art donated for this purpose. The winning bids will be posted on Friday at 4 p.m.

Bus service will be available to take attendees to various exhibitions in the area, including “The NCECA 2000 Invitational,” “A Glimpse of the Invisible,” “NCECA 2000 Regional Student Juried Exhibition,” the work of Nana and Jim McKinnell, and the faculty and studio assistants show at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities.
