The members of the VDMA Glass Technology Forum elected Bernd-Holger Zippe, Ph.D., managing partner of Zippe Industrieanlagen GmbH, its new chairman for the coming three year-term. Zippe succeeds Siegfried Glaser, managing director of FMB Glaser GmbH, who had held the post for six years. Glaser will continue to work on the forum’s board.

Members also elected Harald Jodeit, Ph.D., managing director of the JSJ Jodeit GmbH, deputy chairman. The new board also includes Alfred C. Beimdick, managing director of Kloepper Maschinentechnik GmbH, as well as Andreas Gruhle, managing director of Glamaco Maschinenbau GmbH.

“Glass is the material of the future,” said Zippe. “The VDMA will always serve as an innovative and reliable partner for companies.” The forum’s focal points include a continuous extension of the network for glass technology and photovoltaics; ongoing emphasis on the trade fair policy and participation in developing the glasstec event; joint activities by the sector on important markets; and continued initiatives in research, innovation and the attraction of new engineers.

The Association of German Glass Machinery Manufacturers is an organized members’ body within the German Engineering Federation (Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau, VDMA). The VDMA represents over 3000 companies from the machinery and plant manufacturing sector, which is mainly characterized by medium-sized companies. With a current total of 942,000 employees in Germany and total turnover of €190 billion (about $245 billion) in 2007, the sector is the largest industrial employer and one of the leading German industrial sectors overall.

The Glass Technology Forum is a sector association within the VDMA. It represents 60 companies, which manufacture machinery and plants for the flat, hollow and special glass industry. The sector employs around 4800 people in Germany, achieves a turnover of about €740 million (about $956 million) and has an export rate of 79%.
