BAE Systems recently announced that Walt Havenstein, executive director, has decided to leave the company. He has resigned as a director and chief operating officer of BAE Systems plc and has also stepped down as president and CEO of BAE Systems, Inc., effective June 26, 2009. He will leave the employment of BAE Systems, Inc. on September 20, 2009.
Retired U.S. Marine Corps General Anthony (Tony) Zinni, currently a member of the BAE Systems, Inc. board, has been appointed chairman of the board and, pending the appointment of a permanent successor to Havenstein, acting president and CEO of BAE Systems, Inc. Zinni will also join the BAE Systems executive committee in his capacity as acting president and CEO.
In addition to his 39-year military career, which culminated in his assignment as commander-in-chief of U.S. Central Command, Zinni has held several senior corporate executive positions and serves on the boards of directors for several U.S. businesses. In addition, he has held numerous diplomatic positions and works with various advisory and non-profit groups.
