Tecnargilla 2010 will showcase leading manufacturers in over 25 product sectors.

From September 27 to October 1, 2010, the 22nd Tecnargilla exhibition in Rimini, Italy, will emerge as a comprehensive international showcase for breakthrough innovations in the ceramic and brick industries. In keeping with tradition, this year's fair will display key technological and stylistic products for the future of ceramics. Over 25 product sectors will be represented by leading manufacturers in the industry, including those in plant and machinery design and construction, raw materials, chemical products and additives, firing and heating systems, glazing, quality control, and environmental protection.

The event is expected to draw a wide range of savvy professionals from both industry and research. Tecnargilla provides an excellent opportunity for leaders in the ceramic industry to build and strengthen fundamental partnerships while gathering information about the latest innovations.

Theme Sections

Several theme sections from the 2008 edition will reappear at this year's expo. Because its products have been so well-received in the past, the Kromatech sector will be presenting an aesthetic and color ceramics showcase at Tecnargilla for the fourth time. Claytech, a section that focuses on brick and heavy clay technology, and Kermat, the section for advanced ceramics, will also be held in designated display areas.

Eminent companies such as Keller and Sacmi Heavy Clay, along with over 50% of the world's foremost brick machinery manufacturers, intend to showcase their recent developments in the Claytech sector of the expo. This is an especially positive undertaking, as the market for the brick industry has been problematic in recent months. According to Maurizio Manzini, the representative for the brick industry group on the ACIMAC executive board, companies in the industry are "preparing themselves to face the next few months through optimizing company procedures and focusing on technological innovation, which is the only way forward to weather these difficult times and maintain leadership."

Ceramic Workshop

Creativity is a major trend this year. In a struggling economy, artistic imagination can contribute to a significant revitalization of the industry. The popular Ceramic Workshop will again be presented at the expo by Azzolini-Tinuper, a Milanese architectural firm. The workshop will include inspirational concrete applications in ceramics developed with noteworthy paint factories and machinery manufacturers.

In addition, a new competition-the Tecnargilla Design Award-has been organized as part of the Ceramic Workshop in order to honor digital creativity in the industry. It has been suggested that digital decoration is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the ceramic industry. Any company that is involved in digital decoration has been invited to compete for the Tecnargilla Design Award. To win, participants must display original designs of floor and wall tile using progressive decorations, materials, and applications. Rimini's expo building has a spacious central hall that will display the exhibition's entries during each day of the trade fair.

The intent of the Design Award initiative is to convey the far-reaching potential of digital decoration in ceramics, both creatively and decoratively. In other words, through the fusion of the latest techniques and materials, these digital designs will communicate an advanced variety of artistic expression in the ceramic industry of tomorrow. The winning companies will be selected during Tecnargilla, and the prizes will be awarded by an international panel of judges comprising architects and experts in the sector of digital decoration.

On September 29 and 30, international symposiums featuring Kermat (the section for advanced ceramics) will take place. These symposiums will offer a way for visitors in the industrial sector to connect with R&D scientists and discuss 2010's primary initiatives. These issues include the most current practical applications for technical ceramics, especially in construction, "green" energy/environmental protection, nanomaterials, and surface functionalization. Entitled "New Frontiers in Ceramic Materials," the conference on September 29 will discuss topics such as solar cells, structural ceramic composites, thermal insulation materials for buildings, and how advanced ceramic materials might reduce normal wear and tear on industrial machinery.

Ceramic TTD, or Technology Transfer Day, will be held on September 30 to enable the further development of business-related and technological alliances among major industry players. Suppliers of proposed innovations can network with companies seeking technological solutions during this event. On that same day, Kromatech exhibitors will also be able to present recent findings in advanced ceramics during the scheduled conferences.

Other exhibitions and conferences will include the Societa Ceramica Italiana's presentation of "Raw Materials for the Production of Ceramic Tiles" (October 1), as well as Ceramic Trends and the IED Lab (daily). The IED Lab involves a showcase of architectural and interior design applications for ceramics and is curated by students at the Milan branch of the European Institute of Design.
