Wearable Glass

Some artists choose to help the planet by creating jewelry, lamps, sculptures or other works of art from recycled glass.

These days, environmental awareness is a top priority. Because glass takes many years to decompose naturally, it is important to recycle it - but why not make something with it? Recycled glass can be made into beads by tumbling broken pieces of soda, wine, or salad dressing bottles to wear down the sharp edges. There are a variety of techniques to customize these beads into recycled glass jewelry.

In addition, although jewelry is a popular choice, wind chimes, sculptures, lamps, and bird feeders can all be constructed out of recycled glass art. Transforming broken glass into an unusual or stylish piece of art--while simultaneously helping the planet--can be extremely satisfying. Several artists already specialize in recycled glass.
