Because the teapot is such a popular shape among ceramic artists, it has been reinterpreted in countless ways over the years. A celebration of teapot art is currently taking place at the College of Lake County's Robert T. Wright Gallery in Grayslake, Ill. Ben Bates, who teaches ceramics at the College of Lake County, invited many nationally recognized ceramicists to participate in the exhibition. The ARTcetera auxiliary display space features more than 30 colorfully diverse teapot adaptations for sale (now through April 19).
The College of Lake County Foundation established the Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art in the early 1980s. Although the gallery primarily aims to promote art by Illinois natives, exhibitions of nationally known artists are organized from time to time. Free tours of current exhibitions are always available to visitors. For more information, visit gallery.clcillinois.edu/index.cfm.
