SGCDpro recently announced that Ronald G. McKay died on July 24 in Woodstock, Va. Born in 1924, McKay studied chemical engineering at Lehigh University. He joined McKay Chemical Co. around 1949 and became president around 1970. He led the company until his retirement in 1988. The company (founded in 1920 by G.R. McKay) developed the first commercial glass frosting product and pioneered the art of screen-printing acid etch on glass.

McKay’s expertise in glass frosting was well-known in the industry. He was a member of SGCD (now SGCDpro) from the early 1970s, and was known and respected within the industry. He provided jobs for hundreds of employees throughout the years.

In addition, McKay was devoted to community service. He served as committee chairman at the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and was mayor of East Williston, NY, for 10 years. McKay served as a Boy Scout leader for 20 years and was active in ministries for the United Methodist Church in Woodstock.
