- THE MAGAZINE
Acme Brick Co. recently celebrated its 121-year anniversary on April 17. As part of the celebration, each of Acme’s more than 2,000 employees received a gift of four clear tumbler glasses, each bearing a different image of an event in Acme’s history. Most images show Acme employees from various eras, and one shows two young men posing in 1894 with a Boyd “six mold press.” The machine, which at the time was considered high tech, combined with the Acme’s existing Boyd “two mold press” and was capable of producing 75,000 brick per week, enough for just a few average homes.
“We’re taking this occasion of Acme’s birthday to remind everyone in our company about Acme’s long history and heritage,” said Dennis Knautz, president and CEO. “It’s fascinating to look back into the faces of Acme employees from so long ago and to imagine what they had to do to produce just a few brick.”
