Turnbull Named Acme Plant Manager of the Year

Pete Turnbull, plant manager of Acme Brick Co.’s Tulsa Plant (TUP), was recently recognized as the Acme Plant Manager of the Year (PMOTY) in an awards ceremony. Ed Watson, senior vice president of Production, said that Turnbull deserved the award due to the improvements in several key areas made at TUP in 2011 over the prior year, including plant profit growth, plant margin growth, change in percent recovery of product, and change in man-hours per brick produced. In addition, no recordable injuries took place at TUP in 2011. “Pete exemplifies ‘Embrace Improvement,’” Watson said.

Turnbull’s 35-year career with Acme began in 1977 as a brick packager; he moved up through the ranks and became a management trainee in 1980. In 1985, Turnbull was instrumental in the demolition of the old Tulsa Plant and construction of the current facility. He became the plant superintendent in 1990 and was promoted to plant manager in 1992.

Turnbull previously received the Plant Manager of the Year award in 2000. He has also been recognized as an A-1 winner (runner-up for the top award) in 1996 and 2004.
