Usable Glass Strength Coalition Launched

The Glass Manufacturing Industry Council (GMIC) recently announced that the Usable Glass Strength Coalition (UGSC) has been launched. Reportedly comprising a cross-industry team of representatives, the coalition intends to drive an agenda focused on basic research in the area of glass strength properties.

The coalition will reportedly advance, develop and promote fundamental, pre-competitive research applicable to increasing the usable strength of glass across all glass sectors (e.g., container, flat, specialty, fiber, etc.); provide an opportunity for glass researchers to develop expertise in areas suitable for industrial applications; and develop tools and measurement techniques for the advancement of glass science. The coalition intends to collaboratively fund and guide the research program, build on the outcomes of the research program, and allow development and commercialization activities outside and apart from the coalition to the individual members.
