Asahi Glass Co. Ltd. (AGC) recently announced that AN Wizus™, a glass substrate that reportedly features the world’s lowest level of thermal shrinkage, will be offered for use in high-resolution display panels. High-resolution display panels, such as low-temperature polysilicon liquid crystal and organic electroluminescent displays, are increasingly being adopted for smartphones and tablets. However, shrinkage of the glass substrate due to high-temperature processing can significantly lower the quality and manufacturing productivity of high-resolution display panels.
AGC manufactures glass substrates using the float process, which reportedly enables optimal slow cooling for low-level shrinkage. The company’s existing AN100 glass substrate reportedly features one of the industry’s lowest levels of thermal shrinkage. AN Wizus, which is also manufactured with the float process and features an upgraded glass composition, can limit shrinkage to one fifth that of AN100, creating high expectations for improved performance quality and manufacturing productivity of high-resolution display panels.
