MORGAN ADVANCED MATERIALS: High-Temperature Felt and Millboard
This company’s Thermal Ceramics business announces the availability of its Superwool® HT™ Felt and Superwool HT™ Millboard, which can be used for fabricating gaskets and heat shields for industrial appliances, including ovens, fryers, and cooking equipment. The lightweight, multi-purpose products are available in a range of sizes, thicknesses and densities, and offer equivalent performance to traditional refractory ceramic fiber (RCF) insulation in many applications.
As global regulatory restrictions on RCF are being tightened, many manufacturers of industrial appliances around the world are seeking to move toward insulation alternatives. Superwool fiber has reportedly been developed to provide the improved high-temperature characteristics required to act as an alternative to RCF. Testing has found that Superwool fiber products feature low bio-persistence, and felt and millboard made from Superwool fiber are fully exonerated from any carcinogenic classification under nota Q of directive 97/69 EC issued by the European Union. They are not restricted by European REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemical substances) regulations.
Superwool HT felt can reportedly be used to replace traditional RCF-based felts in high-temperature industrial applications such as expansion joints in kilns, furnaces, and boiler walls and high-temperature gaskets.
Superwool HT millboard is a rigid composite board made from Superwool fibers. Good thermal shock resistance can allow its use in applications where large variations in temperature occur.
