Union Process Inc. recently announced it built two twin S-400 attritors for a customer grinding alumina. The customer’s throughput requirements reportedly dictated the need for these two large production mills. The starting size of the customer’s material was around 300 microns. Union Process was able to reduce the size of the starting material to as small as 1-2 microns.

The tanks are constructed of 304 stainless steel, are ceramic-lined and are jacketed for cooling. Each attritor has a slurry capacity of about 280-300 gal. The grinding media loading for each mill is approximately 300 gal.
