Akron Porcelain & Plastics: Ceramic-Based Bottom Fill Pour System (posted 10/15/08)

Akron Porcelain & Plastics recently announced a new ceramic-based bottom fill pour system (BFPS) that offers a cost advantage for air-melt investment casting foundries. The patent-pending technology consists of a pouring system that fills conventional molds from the bottom of the shell upward and reduces the amount of turbulence created within the pour-without modifying current shell or pouring practices on the shop floor.

Research has confirmed a more consistent fill for each pour, which significantly reduces scrap and improves cosmetic appearances for all high-profile castings. Scrap reductions of 25% are being tracked with a test user, and commensurate savings in total dollar costs are already being realized.
