MoreNew York State has allocated $5 million through the New York State Construction Fund for the Kazuo Inamori School of Engineering at Alfred University. State Senator Catharine Young recently made the announcement to students, faculty and guests. “You are really the future of New York State,” Young told the students. “The faculty you are working with here are cutting-edge and really top-notch” in fields that will help define the future.
The state allocation augments a $10 million gift, given in March 2005, from Kyocera Corp. With the income from the endowment, the University plans to hire up to four Kyocera professors as the nucleus of a new center dedicated to research in nanotechnology for photonic and biomedical applications. The $5 million in state funds will be used for facilities and equipment for the new center.
