Almatis recently celebrated the official opening of its expanded tabular alumina facility in Qingdao, China. "With this new state-of-the-art plant, Almatis is now capable of more efficiently producing and supplying our customers in mainland China and Southeast Asia with the quantity and quality they need," said Oscar Groomes, CEO. After the $18 million investment in the expansion, which includes two new tabular converters and a completely new tabular CD processing line, the facility features a fully integrated production line for the manufacture of tabular alumina. Almatis is currently planning to build an additional calcined alumina facility in Qingdao by 2007 to meet the increased demand for calcined alumina products used in refractory and technical ceramic applications.
